Reflection #6

What, so what, now what?
In bio statistics, Dr. T. uses the document camera to demonstrate concepts and formulas. These are then recorded by Panopto which I have referred to several times as I have been working on problems at home. Having this technology is a lifesaver, and Lord willing I will have access to it in my future classroom for my students to access.

  1. Josh,

I think Panopto is an awesome program, it has helped me in many situations where I have been sick or had knee surgery and was unable to attend class that day. I also know that sometimes students use the Panopto program as a crutch to skip classes, which of course can be countered by taking attendance in class. But I just wanted to toss around the idea that nothing can replace the actual classroom experience if the teacher makes it worthwhile, and that the addition of Panopto is extremely helpful when studying or needing to get caught up but classroom attendance is also extremely important.

This is also just another idea but I think that having the students make videos in response to the lectures of Panopto posts would be a great way to enhance the learning experience. When I was going through school I always had questions about the class when I got home, if I had some way to communicate with the teacher through technology, perhaps a video message, that would have been a major asset to the class. Hopefully we will have access to these technologies as we become teachers.

    Lauryn :)
