What, so what, now what?
In microbiology today a student mentioned that pollutants had been dumped in a lake near her hometown in Eastern Washington, and told the teacher that it was on Youtube. He found the video and played it. It took him about fifteen seconds to find the video during our break and he played it for the class when we got back. We literally have access to the world at our fingertips, which can be used in the classroom setting to enhance the learning experience. This, of course, has to be done carefully especially at the secondary ed level, but it can really enhance the learning experience.
This is so cool to think about. I know Lauryn and I mentioned world interaction during our presentation about social networking last week. This is something that absolutely amazes me. Not only can we type anything in on youtube and find a video, but we can spread news and needs that this world has. Youtube and other websites are completely changing the world and spreading messages that need to be heard globally.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome, Josh! I really love the creativity of YouTube. Have you seen SchoolTube? It's apparently a school appropriate version of YouTube. The only downside is that it doesn't have very many videos or "high-quality" ones.
ReplyDeleteObviously, you would screen videos before showing them in class. Are there any cool dissection videos on YouTube that you could use as a prep for dissection? That would be AWESOME. :)
